Washington State Splash Guard Law

Did you know that Washington State has a splash guard law for trucks, busses and trailers? It states,
"All motor vehicle, trailers and semi-trailers shall be equipped with anti-spray devices on all axles as wide as the tires and extending downward to at least the center of the axle."

Ford Motor Company is not required to install mud flaps or splash guards as original equipment, however, dealer installation of the feature has traditionally addressed state & local vehicle regulations to operate on public roads.

Check your trucks! Don't get caught!

DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID (DEF)

Diesel Exhaust Fluid or DEF is a new product required for the 2011 and newer diesel engines emission control systems. It is a clear liquid that is added though a filler tube under the fuel cap door and has a blue colored cap. When the engine computer determines DEF is needed it injects the fluid into the exhaust system and works in conjunction with the exhaust catalyst to reduce exhaust emissions. It is highly recommended to fill the DEF tank on every oil change and may require additional fluid in between oil changes depending on driving conditions. The DEF system holds five gallons of DEF and should be completely filled every time to ensure that you will not get any false low DEF warnings. The vehicle will give a warning when there is approximately 700 miles to empty and if the vehicle is continued to be driven without adding DEF eventually after multiple warnings the computer will reduce the power of the engine. Fugate Ford offers DEF filling for you where we will fill the DEF tank for you or you can purchase 2.5 gallon containers of DEF to carry in the vehicle with you. The DEF does have a shelf live and it is not recommended to store for long periods and must be stored in a climate controlled environment to prevent freezing.
